Upstairs, you’ll find an incredible assortment of hand-knotted rugs. During my gallery visit, I learned that there are two types of rugs on display—wool and silk. Both come in a wide variety of color, design, and size. (A tip from the gallery: If you are designing a new home, consider picking out a showstopper rug in the early planning process. This will allow the rest of the room design to easily fall into place.) The extraordinary art form of rug-making is sadly seeing a decline; many of India’s rug artists are aging out, without newcomers to pass along the art form to.

The gallery also proudly features works from many talented artists—mostly local. Wander through the gallery to browse paintings that capture the serene natural beauty of New England, or that can provide a “wow factor” pop of color to any space. This gallery is unique because it feels like taking a tour through a beautiful home; there are vignettes throughout the space—furniture paired with paintings, paired with decorative accessories and gleaming pottery—that could be transported directly to any room and feel right at home. The whole space feels warm and inviting, and offers artful ideas for anyone to use when decorating.
