Concord is a Year-Round Arts Destination
Concord is the perfect destination for art lovers. While the Capital Arts Festival September 24-25 is a prime time to visit Concord, it is only one weekend out of a year. There are several venues and events that offer year-round entertainment!
NH League of Craftsmen
If you are going to Concord, the NH League of Craftsmen Fine Craft Gallery is a must-see. This juried organization is one of the oldest craft organizations in the country. The Fine Craft Gallery is stocked with local artists’ work which is available for purchase, including jewelry, pottery, and blown glass. This is a great place to check out if you are interested in educational art programs because they offer classes, demonstrations, and workshops.
Capital Center for the Arts
The Capitol Center for the Arts is the largest and “most eclectic” performing arts center in New Hampshire. It originally opened in 1927 as the Capitol Theatre and has since been updated and modernized.
Red River Theatres
Red River Theatres is an independent cinema in the heart of Concord. They offer first-run films, unique movie-themed events, and the best popcorn you’ll find anywhere.
Concord Arts Market
If you are an art lover, then you must schedule a stop by the Concord Arts Market. Their Summer Arts Market takes place every third Saturday of the month starting in June until October from 10 AM to 3 PM in Rollins Park. There are a variety of vendors, including art, food, musicians, and more. There are 50 vendors at each Summer Arts Market and they rotate each Saturday.
Hatbox Theatre
Another excellent performing art center is the Hatbox Theatre. Watch magic, comedy, improv, and dramatic theatre performances in the intimate “black box” space.
Canterbury Shaker Village
The Canterbury Shaker Village is a nonprofit museum and a historic landmark. The Village has restored a significant amount of land, including 25 original Shaker buildings, four reconstructed Shaker buildings, and nearly 700 acres of forests, fields, gardens, nature trails, and mill ponds.
Concord also features public art, which you can view as you walk around the city. Check out the ongoing outdoor sculpture exhibit if you want to exercise, enjoy the sun, and explore downtown Concord!
