Looking for a small city to relocate to? Think of moving up to Concord (NH)!
Looking for a smaller city? One full of life and culture - but close to open fields, hiking trails, and streams? Not too far from skiing or parks, but with a great hospital and good schools?
Meet Concord, NH: Set on the banks of the Merrimack River in central New Hampshire, Concord is the state capital, and just 42 miles from New Hampshire's boundary with the Bay State and 135 miles from Canada. Conveniently located, Concord is 18 miles north of Manchester Airport, and 60 miles north of Boston.
Now, US News and World Report ranks NH #2 in places to live, based on its economy, opportunity, low crime, environment and stability. But in all of NH, why Concord? Well, it has culture, dining, a great downtown, lots of natural areas, and history and monuments. And, recently, the United Health Foundation’s America's Health Rankings put New Hampshire near the top.
With a good infrastructure, set right off of I93, strong internet connections, and vibrant neighborhoods, Concord has a population of about 43,000 - is just the right size - not too big, not too small and not in the middle of nowhere - yet far enough away from the big cities to feel special and quite safe.
Concord is home to the NH State House, a gold-domed monument built in 1819. From the dome, one can see corn fields across the river, and it is set on a thriving Main Street full of locally-owned shops and public art. The Susan N. McLane Audubon Center has trails and wildlife, and the City of Concord offers more than 80 miles of well-marked trails.
So, take a look at Concord, a lively, walkable city with classic old homes, lots of city parks, nice folks, a strong economy and an international flair.
